Craft Corner – Organized and Ready for Action

When we moved into our new apartment a month ago, the plan was that the sunroom would be my crafty corner. We quickly realized that this would just not work, because it is not so much a sunroom but more of a converted porch, with no insulation against the elements. In other words – it would be cold in the winter, and hot in the summer. Plus, the sun would probably bleach everything I left out.

I have to admit I was a little disappointed after I realized that it wasn’t going to work. I had really hoped that I could finally bring my sewing table out of storage, and really wanted all of my crafty items in one place, rather than relegated to three different closets as they had been for the past year.

When I went to work the Monday after the move, I knew that Mr. Martini would be able to get a lot of unpacking done without me. But imagine my surprise when I came home that Monday night to find that he had created a crafty corner for me in our living room. He moved my sewing table and yarn cabinet to a blank, unused corner, and it fit perfectly. Add a couple of plastic storage units, and it was perfect! (Thank you, Mr. Martini!)

Or, it would be, once I got it organized.

Throughout the past month, as I’ve come across a craft item during the unpacking process, I plopped it in this corner. Finally, this Sunday I had time to dig in and organize it.

I was very, very smart to have waited. Because believe it or not, I have no unfinished projects just hanging out. Which means I could empty every single knitting bag, every project box, everything, which means that every single item now has a new home.

Ta da!

This is my new crafty corner. The astute among you will notice that a couple of things are missing – most noticeably, the large white Singer sewing machine. That machine is really “too much” machine for me, so I’m thinking of selling it on Craigslist. So that will be stored in the meantime. I also stored the large bin of acrylic yarn, and the two shoebox bins of scrap yarn. But I did manage to empty one entire large bin, and two other shoebox sized plastic bins.

Plus, I managed to discover a bunch of supplies I’d forgotten I had, like my embroidery supplies, my beads, and a few other things, too. Expect some new projects to start soon!

Speaking of projects, this is the final post of my NaBloPoMo project this year! I did it! I posted something every day for all 30 days of November. Yay!

Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere, but I’m just happy I don’t have to keep up this pace all year long. But it does feel good to set a goal and follow through with it! Woo-hoo!
