    DIY Stitch Markers

    By Susan | December 22, 2008

I have a knitting project stashed in my desk drawer at work that I can knit on here and there when I have a few minutes of downtime. Those times when my computer is acting silly and needs re-booted, or at lunch when I’ve forgotten my book. I’ve made pretty good progress since October:

    Sock in Progress

This is sock #1, a simple garter rib sock in some sKnitches limited edition yarn that I received from a Simply Socks Yarn Company club a year or so ago. It’s pretty yarn (it has some bamboo in it) and while I’m not loving the pooling, I think they’re going to be very comfy socks.

Because I’m knitting these at work, I don’t have many notions here – just the needles and the yarn. So when I needed stitch markers today, I had to think back to a tip I saw on Knitty Gritty (the DIY network knitting show that I don’t think is filming new episodes).

See the straw in the above picture? A couple of quick snips with my desk scissors, and voila! Two stitch markers!

I love it when I can think of (or remember seeing) a simple, cheap, painless solution to a problem.

    Happy Monday!

Very cool idea! -I’m not a fan of pooling so much, but I don’t mind them in that color- it reminds me of melting neopolitan icecream swirling around the bowl!
