    Finished Object Follow-Up: Christmas Stockings

    By Susan | December 9, 2008

Holy cow! November ends, and I just disappeared. Sorry about that! I was struck down with a horrible stomach virus last week, which zapped me of my energy, including my will to knit. I’m finally feeling better, as evidenced by my newfound desire to knit. I’m working on making myself “the perfect hat” for this winter, as I somehow managed to misplace all of my hats during the move.

While the perfect hat takes shape, I decided to do a little Christmas decorating at the new apartment. Our new place is “cozy” (read: about 300 square feet smaller than our last apartment) so we don’t have room to put up a Christmas tree this year. Instead, I decorated our fireplace mantle with some cheery holiday decorations:

    Holiday Mantle

I will point out that the miniature tree on the mantle is REAL, which astounds me. I haven’t had a real Christmas tree since I was a kid. I’m loving it, although now that I write this I realize I should probably give it some water.

I’d like to point out the Christmas stockings that I made three whole years ago. I think they’ve aged rather nicely. I made these just a few months after I picked up knitting in 2005, and I remember thinking “Hey, this sock knitting thing isn’t that hard.” These inspired me to knit real socks, and as it turns out, I’m wearing a pair of handknit socks today.

We hung these on Sunday, and as of this morning, the cats hadn’t gotten to them. We’ll see how long until they go sniffing for the wool.
