From my 101 in 1001 list:
55. Finish or frog all current knitting WIPs
In the interest of full disclosure, here are my works-in-progress as of 3/18/08.
From oldest to most recent, we have…
Vintage Velvet Scarf - I started this scarf in 2006. It deserves to be finished.
Mini Fair Isle Sweater - I couldn’t complete this until I had a sewing machine for the steeks. I have a sewing machine. I need to finish this.
Roza’s Socks - I started these during the move to our current apartment. We’re just about to resign our yearly lease. So it’s been a year since I’ve touched them. Gah.
Forest Canopy Shawl - the knitting is done, it just needs blocked.
Fleece Artsit Sea Wool Socks - This one is a mystery. I love the yarn, I love the color, I love the pattern. Why did I put these down?
Koigu Garter Rib Socks - See above - why did I stop with just one?
Silk Garden Lite Multi-Directional Diagonal Scarf - In truth, I thought this scarf was done. But with just 2 balls of the yarn, it was too short. So I purchased another ball of yarn and this should be quick to finish.

One-Row Scarf in Sheep Shop Sheep 2 Wool - again, gorgerous scarf, I’m about 75% completed, but I just… stopped. I don’t even have a WIP picture of it. Must finish this in time for next winter.
Sky Socks - Another WIP without even a WIP picture. I’m done with one, and it’s too short in the foot. I think I know that when I finish the second, I have to go back and fix the first one, which is making this whole process annoying. These may be frogged.
Babette Blanket v1.0 - I’m too far in to frog this, but I’m not going much further than to finish up the top portion. I’ll most likely seam this up and give it away.
Babette Blanket v2.0 - Still plugging away, still in love with these colors.
Phew! There it is, my list of knitting WIPs as of 3/18/08, to be completed or frogged in the next 1000 days or so.
You’ll notice that I didn’t say anything like “will not start new project until all WIPs are completed” or anything like that. So I can start 100 new projects, as long as these 11 are completed or frogged.
See how I gave myself an out? I’m so sneaky.

Sneaky, but sort of realistic. Holding yourself hostage to knitting you hate? Bad plan. Making yourself accountable for finishing up old crap? Good plan. You’ve got the second right now - I think forbidding yourself from starting anything until you finish all your WIPs would be more like the first. Sure, you don’t hate those projects, but if they were all you were “allowed” to work on? You might.

The mini sweater is very impressive! And it looks like you have a serious case of Second Sock Syndrome, btw.
