If you asked me to describe myself, I probably wouldn’t define myself as “crafty.”
I’m not “skilled in deviousness or deception.” I have a terrible poker face.
I’m also not what you’d call crafty in the sense of being “artful.” I’m not visually creative, I’ll openly admit.
So why have I started a site called “Almost Crafty”? Because that’s what I’m striving to be. I don’t expect to ever be talented or artful, but I think that maybe, someday, I can become something that’s close to that.
Also, I absolutely admire people who can make pretty things with their own two hands. I want to learn to make pretty things, too.
Why? Here’s the thing - I work in a sometimes stressful, number crunching job. A few years ago, I started knitting just to do something, anything, creative in my free time. I loved it! I loved it so much, I had an entire site dedicated to it.
After a couple of years of knitting, I want to try some new things, that expand my crafty horizons. I expect to make many, many mistakes. I expect that I will make horribly amateurish, ugly items. I have no doubt that I will fail miserably many, many times.
But there’s always hope that I might discover something in me that’s a little more visually artistic. So in the meantime, I’ll keep my fingers crossed, and keep on trying!
Here’s a brief sample of my non-knitty crafty life to this point. Do you think I have potential?

Love the new site! I keep wishing I did something besides knit and crochet, too, like quilting. But then I think, you can’t really undo a bad cut of fabric, can you? And given the amount of mistakes I make on my knitting… well…
I wish you better luck than that and I can’t wait to see some of your crafty goods!
