Bah. I’m frustrated. I’ve been knitting a lot, I just have nothing to show for it.
To wit (holy cow, how much do I love that I just typed “to wit?”):
This? Is Forecast, from Knitty. Isn’t it cute, without the bobbles, and with a 9 stitch braided cable I found? It’s a little further along than this - I knit the collar, I knit down the shoulders, I split off for the armholes. This weekend I knit a few more inches of the body, then I tried it on.
Bah. Gah. Grrr.
Here’s the problem in a nutshell: I’ve gained a bit a lot some weight in the past couple of years, thanks to a combination of medications and good old-fashioned sedentary behavior. I’m still having trouble picturing myself with this new weight. I’m not used to this new size, and every once in awhile I catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror or a photograph and I’m stunned - stunned - that that’s what I look like. I don’t really feel any different, except my feet hurt more than they used to, but sometimes I catch a glimpse and go, “Huh. Lookie there. Wow. Sheesh.”
Well, that was me in the mirror last night when I tried on my Forecast to see how it fit. It fit just fine (what’s done) but, wow. It really didn’t do me any favors. Garter stitch is squishy, and it’s squishy because it’s more 3-dimensional than stockinette (if that makes sense - I could just be making that up). So this added thickness really doesn’t do me any favors.
Bah. Grrr. Argh. Now I’m remembering why I haven’t wanted to knit sweaters. Bigger SpaceCase = bigger sweaters = more knitting and more yarn.
Which is why I cast on for a scarf last night. Knitting scarves is like shopping for body lotions - it doesn’t matter what size you are, they always fit, because size isn’t really an issue.

I agree with you about the garter stitch = big factor. I received a sweater last year as a gift that was super cute off… on, I looked like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. Thank goodness it wasn’t handmade!
