Finished Objects – Finally!
The weather cooperated this weekend, and I was able to go out in our new shared backyard and take a few pictures.
I have to say – I felt a little strange, arranging my knitted objects and my yarns just-so in the grass and on the steps, and then photographing them. I almost wished my landlords had walked through when I was doing it so I could explain. I imagined they were standing at their window, watching me work, and thinking, “Honey, are you sure we rented that apartment to the right people?”
I’ll just be glad we all signed the lease before they saw me doing this.
Scarf: Bainbridge Scarf by Minty Fresh of Pepperknit. One (plus a bit of a second) ball of Queensland Collection Kathmandu Aran (85% merino wool, 10% silk, 5% cashmere; color: sapphire) on one #8 circular needle.
Started: 2/5/07
Finished: 2/10/07
This is a fabulous little scarf that I did not get to wear at all this winter. I plan to bring it out in the fall – it’s warm around the neck, but not warm enough for a truly blustery Chicago winter. But a Chicago autumn evening? This scarf will be perfect.
What I love about this scarf is how simple it is to make, but how unique it looks when you wear it. See Minty’s site for better pictures of the scarf being worn – I couldn’t get it to tie correctly in my picture, it needs a real neck to show the unique structure.
Socks: Madder Ribbed Socks from Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush. One hank of Socks That Rock Lightweight in Cobalt Bloom (100% superwash merino) on size #1 DPNs.
Started: 1/24/07
Finished: 2/18/07
After a great start knitting these socks, the progress slowed when I realized that these socks were going to be too darn small for my feet. I finished the first, started the second, willed my feet to be a little less wide, but no luck. These don’t fit me, at all. Luckily, Dawn agreed to take them off my feet… er, hands.
The pattern was fabulous, though – it was my first Nancy Bush pattern, and it was as well-written and ingenious as I would have expected from her, even for such a relatively easy pattern. I knit my first Dutch heel and round toe, and while I probably wouldn’t choose either of them again, it was still fun to try something new.
Two thumbs-up finished objects – it just took me 3 months to write about them. Whoops.
Coming soon – Longies, that are thisclose to being finished. Just some finally finishing touches, and they’ll be ready for their own photo session.
