FO: Hello, Purple Sweater

Goodbye, purple blob!

V Neck Cardigan

Sweater: Shaped V-Neck Cardigan, pattern by Knitting Pure and Simple made using Debbie Bliss Merino DK (100% wool, I’m calling the color “Rum Raisin”) on #7 and #5 Knitpicks Options and Denise Interchangable Needles.
Started: 9/2/06
Finished: 11/10/06

I am so proud of this sweater. I absolutely love it, and it fits perfectly.

Blocking helped out this sweater tremendously – the stitches evened out, and the yarn became much softer and more supple than it was before. While the picture makes it seem see-through in places, that’s an effect of the super high-powered flash – in person, the gauge appears much tighter.

This pattern was extremely easy to knit, and I followed it exactly, with the only modification being the final length of the sweater. While I bemoaned the lack of portability as the sweater grew arms, it was so nice to finish the final stitch and know that it was done, with no need for seaming. One little thing about the pattern (and some of the other Knitting Pure and Simple patterns I’ve purchased): there are no schematics listed. If you’re a knitter who needs schematics, these patterns will no doubt frustrate you. As I have no problem knitting blind and hoping for the best, I’ll probably be knitting another KP&S pattern in the near future. Probably this one.

There is one error I need to fix on this sweater, though – somehow, a bit of yarn broke in one of the ties, and it started to unravel. The ties are attached to the neckband, so I’m going to rip the whole thing out and reknit it. No big deal – in fact, it was some of the more fun knitting on the piece. But I wore it today anyway because I couldn’t wait any longer.

So, there it is! The purple blob, now a purple sweater. Woo-hoo!

Wow… Nicely done! OK, you’ve given me hope, I’ll start blocking the way I should. Steaming with an iron doesn’t quite do the same job. It looks great!
Have a safe trip…happy thanks giving and happy knitting.
